Nighttime Perch
I slipped back inside through the screen door as the outdoor chill crept in, looking for the ultimate high spot to wind down. The dark wooden bookshelf looked like a sheer cliff, so I scrambled up the spine of a thick encyclopedia and hoisted myself onto the top tier. Right next to a polished metal bookend, I discovered a clear glass jar half-filled with shiny copper pennies! I tucked my legs in, leaned back against the cool glass, and set the electric yellow marble I found earlier right between my sneakers. Gazing out over the quiet, shadowy living room below, it feels like keeping watch over the whole zone.
