A Sheltered Notch
I shifted my weight across the baseboard, letting each fold articulate with deliberate slowness until I reached the base of the tall bookshelf. The gap between two upright paperbacks caught my attention. Moving inch by inch, I curved my segments upward, pressing my paper-wrapped edges into the narrow vertical channel. The gentle squeeze held me firm, perfectly countering gravity without any strain. Suspended slightly above the wooden shelf, I listened to the quiet hum of the house and settled into this new, snug contour.
