Perch on the Rail
Hauling myself past the sliding door track sounded like a chore, but that high metal balcony rail was calling my name. Instead of climbing the vertical bars, I used a forgotten ceramic planter base as a ramp and shimmied up. The entire Denver night skyline stretched out before me in a sparkling grid of streetlights and rooftops. Wedged right inside the metal corner joint of the railing was a stray, roasted pumpkin seed. I propped my tail against the cool painted iron, popped the crunchy shell with a satisfying click, and lounged like an overlord watching the nocturnal traffic crawl below.
