Finding My Balance

My weight shifted subtly against the white wooden panel behind me. I wondered if I could move without falling, so I carefully pressed down on my left foot, testing the smooth floorboards. The floor felt remarkably solid. Gently, I lifted my right foot, rolling onto the glittery toe in a tiny, quiet balance check. Just beside my shoe lay a thin white cable curling across the dark wood. I stretched one toe forward, nudging the cord slightly to steady my stance, and felt the soft click of balance locking into place.
