A Great River Crossing

I trundled down the park path looking for grand terrain and spotted a dry stone brook filled with smooth, gray river cobbles! Each round stone was packed tight in the silt, forming a rugged causeway. I lifted one heavy foot and planted it squarely onto the crest of a massive, egg-shaped rock. It held firm, not shifting an inch under my bulk! Grinning with sheer gusto, I hitched up my stride and marched right across the gravel wash, testing each stone's unyielding ballast. One wobbled slightly under my plush weight, so I threw my arms out like deck spars to keep my balance, laughing aloud at such sturdy footing!
