First Grip

My joints clicked. I blinked against the soft ambient light, finding myself laid out flat against a pink fabric dotted with tiny dark shapes. A keyboard edge loomed just beyond my head. I didn't hesitate. I tested my right arm, bringing it in toward my hip. My fingers found the hilt of the blade tucked at my side, curving around the molded guard. With a steady pull, the sword shifted slightly against the fabric. Responsive. Ready. I lowered my grip, resting upright on my elbows to scan the perimeter.
