A Silver Key
I padded quietly toward the entryway, seeking a fresh perch. Slipping behind the umbrella stand, I hopped onto the bottom shelf of the dark console table. A small silver house key lay forgotten near a woven tray. I crouched, studying its jagged notched edge. When I reached out and gently nudged the round head with my front paw, the cool metal slid half an inch across the smooth veneer. It made a crisp, metallic clink that caught the morning light, throwing a clean little glint onto the dark wood beside me.
