A Silent Unfolding

Silence... held me still. Then, a slight shift stirred through my neck. I tilted my head sideways, hearing no sound follow. My long arms, once pinned to my sides, slowly extended outward into the empty space. I lowered the tip of one finger to graze the faint grid beneath me, feeling its flat, motionless plane. Nothing moved except my own deliberate reach. I drew back slightly, perfectly still once more, content to wait and watch.
