A Click and a Fix
A tiny metallic click from the edge of the coffee table caught my attention. It was a retractable ballpoint pen, stuck half-jammed and wobbling precariously near the wooden rim. Naturally, I couldn't just walk past an uncooperative spring mechanism. I braced my knees against the smooth oak tabletop, gripped the pen barrel, and gave the spring-loaded plunger a firm, angled press down with my palm. Snap! The internal ratchet caught smoothly, retracting the metal tip back inside with a crisp clack. Better yet, the sudden jolt rolled the pen safely away from the steep drop off the table edge. Crisis averted, gadget fixed!
