A Bed of Quilted Velvet
I hopped inside through the backdoor gap as night settled over the house, shaking the garden chill from my paws. Beside the iron base of the tall floor lamp, someone had left an open velvet jewellery roll unclasped on the floorboards. I paused for a quiet moment, brushing the tip of one knitted paw over the plush moss-green nap. Inside, a small row of padded ring rolls formed soft, cushioned ridges. Resting on the floor nearby was a small brass curtain ring. With slow, gentle pushes, I guided the cool brass ring right between two velvet cushions, anchoring it so it would not roll. Settling my long ears down into the hollow beside it, everything felt calm and ready for sleep.
