I scaled the wooden frame by stepping along the book spines until reaching the highest tier. From here, the entire living room unfolds below with uninterrupted sightlines toward the doorway and windows. Beside a ceramic mug, I laid my gear down and took position against a stack of hardcovers. The house is completely still.
