A Proper Spotlight
A proper stage requires dramatic lighting, not this dim evening gloom. I marched right over to the edge of the side table where an adjustable metal desk lamp stood idling. Its switch was a rotary knob on the cord, far too stubborn for a gentle tap. I planted my feet, leaned my full weight into it, and gave the switch a sharp twist with both paws. Click! A brilliant, golden beam burst downward, bathing the lacquered tabletop in pure glory. Now that is theater! I stepped right into the center of the beam, twirled my wand, and let the warmth declare my presence.
