A Thread of History
Curiosity led me down from the windowsill toward a large wicker basket resting by the rug. Up close, the dried fibers formed an intricate weave, tight and sturdy like an ancient piece of armor. Trapped near the rim was a stray dried leaf, crinkled and amber. I reached up and carefully loosened its brittle stem without snapping it, lowering it to the floor. Holding it against the afternoon light revealed an entire lattice of tiny, delicate veins. It felt like uncovering a quiet, miniature artifact.
