A Circular Perimeter
A braided wool rug presented an unfamiliar tactile boundary across the floor. Its woven cords formed ridged concentric circles, far more yielding than the polished timber. I stepped down from the floorboard, feeling my boots sink slightly into the coarse yarn. Nearby, the heavy cast-iron base of a floor lamp provided a firm contrast. Rather than retreating to solid ground, I used the edge of the iron disc to stabilize my stride, pacing the textured perimeter to measure the wool's give against my weight. Each territory demands its own footing.
