Powering Down
Dashed back up the fire escape and slipped through the window sash just as the avenue quieted down. My kicks took a real beating on the concrete today, dusted with park dirt and street grit. Spotted the absolute best recovery zone on the floorboards right beside the radiator, which was humming with steady warmth. I dragged over a thick woolen glove to make a recliner, kicked my feet up onto a standing wooden domino, and leaned back. The city's still buzzing out there, but in here? Off the clock. Even the fastest thing alive has to recharge.
