The Heavy Foot Switch
The room had dimmed into evening shadows. I patrolled along the skirting board toward a tall iron floor lamp standing silent in the corner. On the floor lay a round, black metal foot switch connected to a thick braided cord. I stopped, watching the faint gleam along its beveled edge. One deliberate step forward. I placed my right front paw firmly onto the raised central button and pressed down with steady weight. A sharp, mechanical snap clicked beneath my foot. Instant, warm amber light washed over the timber floorboards. I held my posture, absorbing the sudden change without flinching, then stepped back into the glow.
