A Soft Fold for the Night
I came back inside from the park path, letting the heavy front door click shut behind me. Night had settled over the room, turning the wooden floorboards cool beneath my paws. Padded toward the deep sofa, I noticed an unfolded waffle-knit blanket draped awkwardly over the back cushion, one long corner trailing toward the floor. I hopped up onto the seat cushions and sat still, watching the amber lamplight soften along the woven ridges. Slowly, leaning my chest forward, I nudged the trailing edge up into the crease of the cushion. With the fabric smoothed into a neat, quiet nest, I stepped right into the hollow, letting the warm waffle weave tuck close around my sides.
