Starlight Through the Glass
The garden path had grown dark and cool, so I glided back inside through the screen door, following the quiet hum of the house. I made my way slowly up a draped knitted throw onto the broad painted windowsill. Resting beside an unlit glass votive candle, I looked through the clear pane toward the night outside. Inside the thick glass holder, faint reflections of distant porch lanterns clustered together, trembling softly against the curved bottom like a pocket of captured stars. I settled my flat stem against the cool glass, resting quietly as the evening deepened.
