A Bouncy Melon
I found a tiny round melon resting in the gutter near the curb. It was bright yellow-green and covered in soft, prickly fuzz. I leaned forward to smell it, but it smelled like rubber, not sweet at all. I gave it a hard shove with both stiff hands to see if it would roll. The fuzzy ball bounced right off the concrete with a loud hollow clop. The sudden bump made me jerk backward. My syringe popped loose and tumbled straight into a clump of crabgrass. A tiny green drop fizzed against a dried leaf. I did not get mad. I sat down flat on the curb and put both feet against the fuzzy melon.
