A Bed in the Bookmark
I climbed onto the low bookshelf to find a quiet place to sleep. Between two heavy volumes, a thick dark red ribbon bookmark was hanging down, nearly touching the wood. I stepped closer and tapped it; the fabric was ribbed and surprisingly soft. Carefully, I eased myself into the crevice between the paper edges, pulling the lower end of the ribbon across my legs like a smooth, heavy blanket. From here, the amber floor lamp casts a warm, peaceful glow across the floor. My knees feel rested now, tucked into this snug paper cave.
