Securing the Coil
The yard grew cold as dusk deepened. I decided to make my way back toward the house before full darkness took the lawn. Near the patio wall, a thick green garden hose lay coiled around an iron frame. A loose loop had sagged down, trapping a dry twig against the brass fitting. I stepped onto the rim of the metal spool, planted my feet firmly, and used both hands to heave the heavy rubber loop up over the hook. It settled back into line with a low, heavy thud. The perimeter path back to the runner is clear.
