A Soft Bed of Cotton
Heading back inside from the quiet street, I made my way upstairs to rest. On the cool marble vanity, a glass apothecary jar had been left without its lid. Inside, a fluffy stack of white cotton pads rose nearly to the rim. Taking my time, I climbed up from a wooden soap dish and eased my rounded belly gently onto the top pad. It yielded with a deep, pillowy softness, cradling me completely while the cool porcelain mirror behind me caught the faint silver nightlight. I nestled in, perfectly still, letting the quiet tiredness fade away.
