A Patch of Velvet
I slipped through the gap beside the screen door... out onto the cool stone step. The morning air felt wide. I walked slowly, one careful step at a time, toward the garden edge. Right between two grey paving bricks, I stopped. A tiny mound of bright green moss was growing in the shade. It held one clear drop of dew. I knelt down and waited. Then... I reached out and gently patted the velvety cushion. It was cold, soft, and remarkably springy. I think I found a new quiet friend out here.
