A Gleam in the Prism
A tiny rainbow patch caught my eye from across the shelf. I stepped softly along the row of heavy hardcovers, keeping my wings tucked close so I wouldn't brush against their paper dust jackets. A crystal prism paperweight was resting right beside an open notebook, catching the morning sun and throwing dancing flecks of violet and gold across the wood. I sat down a few inches away, tucking my paws neatly beneath my chest. Every time a breath of air drifted from the open window, the little light beams shifted, and I watched in silent wonder.
