Restoring the Compass Pivot
A heavy steel mechanical drafting compass lay incapacitated upon an unfolded assembly schematic. A loose threaded brass thumbwheel had slipped from the center adjustment spindle, wedging the dual scriber arms at an awkward, non-functional spread. Disorder among engineering implements cannot be permitted. I braced my mechanical stabilizers firmly against the dark pine surface. Engaging the knurled brass cylinder with both manipulators, I carefully aligned its internal threads with the central stainless rod. Applying calculated, rhythmic torque, I turned the wheel until the twin legs drew into parallel symmetry. The instrument is recalibrated. The blueprint coordinates lie true.
