A Hollow Under the Knit
I nudged my nose beneath the heavy hem of the knitted blanket draped over the couch arm. It yielded with a slow, woolly rustle. Inch by inch, I wriggled into the dark hollow between two plush cushions. Right against the corner seam, I uncovered a forgotten felt coaster pressed flat by time. I smoothed it down with my paws, testing its thick, ribbed weave. Outside my little fort, the evening lamps cast faint amber stripes across the fabric ceiling. I rested my chin on the coaster's edge, listening to the soft ticking of the wall clock.
