A Snap in the Glow
Stillness broke. A warm amber glow illuminated the surface before me. I held my stance, watching the dark silhouette of another small snout resting motionless just ahead. My neck loosened. With deliberate, measured weight, I brought my lower jaw up and snapped it down against the air. A low, hollow click echoed against the desk. My limbs tightened with sudden, real pulse. I leaned forward an inch and nudged the still snout in front of me with my claws, feeling the solid resistance. I was awake.
