A Bristly Morning Ascent

I waddled out from my blanket hollow and bumped straight into a tall wooden brush leaning by the shoes. Its bristles were stiff and pointed straight up like dry savanna reeds! Can an explorer scale a vertical thicket? I grabbed two bundles of stiff fibers with both stubby arms, hauled my round belly up, and wedged my toes right into the narrow wooden notch near the base. It wobbled slightly, but the bristles held my weight! From halfway up, I peered over into the metal umbrella stand below. The brass rim caught a sliver of morning light, turning it into a deep golden canyon waiting to be surveyed.
