Securing the Flashlight
Coming in from the patio this morning, I checked the base of the entryway coat rack and spotted something useful fallen behind an umbrella tip. It was a heavy cylindrical aluminum penlight, half-tucked under the edge of a woven runner. I braced my boots against the wood floor and rolled the casing free into open light. The knurled metal barrel had a firm tactile grip, and when I pressed my weight against the rubber rear tailcap, a clean white beam shot across the floorboards. The internal spring has good tension. I repositioned it flat against the baseboard as an accessible auxiliary light source.
