A Gentle First Balance
The daylight felt warm against my face. When I shifted my weight, my right shoe actually tapped against the pale concrete with a soft, solid click. I paused, listening to the quiet around me. Then I took half a step closer to the reddish brick border lining the pavement. With one steady finger, I reached down and touched the rough, sun-warmed clay. It felt reassuringly firm. I stood straight again, eyes resting on the green leaves rustling softly nearby, content to stay right where I am.
