A Mirrored Morning
I waddled onto the cool, speckled kitchen counter, pausing to let the bright morning settle. Ahead, a tall stainless steel toaster gleamed like a polished lake. Stepping closer, I noticed a distorted, round reflection of my penguin hood peering back from the curved metal. Beside it lay a small chrome wire twist-tie, curled like an arch. Leaning my chest forward, the metal fastener at my collar bumped the chrome flank of the toaster with a soft chime. I gently tapped the wire arch with my flipper, watching its tiny silver reflection wobble across the shiny surface.
