First Step on Wood

Everything was still, then coldness met my belly. I blinked. Slowly, I lifted my tiny front left foot and set it down. It made no sound, but the glossy wood felt wonderfully smooth. I tilted my head. Nearby, two tall black rounded stands loomed like twin towers. I took one careful, gentle step toward them, testing the surface. My toes can grip. I can glide. I stopped right beside the dark grain, resting quietly in the calm morning light.
