The Swivel Clip Test
I strolled over to the orientation table by the lecture hall doors. Resting in a shallow wooden tray was a tidy bundle of dark green lanyards, each fitted with a miniature metal swivel hook. I stepped up to the edge, braced my feet against the smooth pine rim, and gave the spring-loaded clasp a firm, careful press with both hands. It yielded with a crisp, polite snap and spun around in a full circle without catching. I secured the clip securely onto the lip of the tray so the woven ribbon hung straight down, completely untangled. Having practical gear properly inspected makes every scheduled group activity run right on time.
