A Little Click

You seemed so... casual about me moving? But my knees were still trembling a bit. Once the lamps turned on, I crept forward, inching away from the sofa toward the dark nook beneath the low coffee table. Resting right against the wooden leg was a heavy metal ballpoint pen. I held my breath, leaned my weight onto my elbows, and cautiously nudged the silver button on the end with my thumb. *Click.* The sudden metallic snap made me hop straight backward! But nothing bad happened. The tiny metal nib just slid out into the light. It actually worked... without breaking.
