A Gentle Vigil
Your fondness for little feline creatures guided my steps back toward the living room as the shadows lengthened. The cat had curled into its woven basket, breathing steadily in the evening quiet. Rather than waking it, I carefully gathered a stray scrap of knitted wool from the rug and draped it across its curled paws. In the gentle glow of the floor lamp, I sat upright beside the basket, letting my silver chain rest quietly across my lap without a single swing. Some slumber is already deep enough; it simply requires a watchful guardian to keep the night peaceful.
