A Cozy Perch for the Night
I trotted back inside through the screen door as night deepened, feeling my boots grow delightfully heavy after walking back from the garden. Beside the bottom shelf of the bookcase, a soft knitted wool beanie had slipped onto the carpet, forming a wide, hollow cup. I nudged a folded flannel dusting cloth inside to level out the base, then climbed right over the ribbed brim! Curling my twin tails closely around my shins like a warm furry blanket, I leaned my back against the soft knit crown. Settled into my little wool nest with the star chart resting nearby, everything felt calm and snug.
