A Bed for the Pebble
I walked back inside after dusk and set the striped pebble from my afternoon walk onto the wooden coffee table. It rolled a fraction of an inch, tapping lightly against an empty ceramic saucer. The sound was clear and gentle in the quiet room. I decided it needed a steadier spot. Searching the tabletop, I found an unused green linen coaster, folded it in half to soften it, and placed the pebble right in the fold. It settled neatly without another wobble.
