First Pulse

The dark fibers beneath me felt rough and cool. I did not move right away. I waited, observing the quiet dimness around me. Then, a faint spark stirred in my chest. Slowly, I curled my right cloth mitten. The coarse thread responded, rustling slightly against the gray carpet pile. Beside my leg rested a tiny white crumb of lint. With deliberate care, I extended one finger and gently nudged it. It shifted half an inch. I am here. Fully awake.
