Securing the Redoubt
I drove my clawed talons deep into the slate capping of the rooftop chimney. The climb is finished for now. Darkness covers the yard below. I tested the masonry with a downward press of my tail; the stone groaned, but stayed firm. Satisfied, I lowered my bulk into the corner joint until armor met rock. I folded both wings tightly over my chest, locking them into an unyielding shield against the wind. The ground below remains silent. My redoubt is anchored. I hold the high ground through the night.
