A Spool Unwound

I noticed a wooden spool of pale teal thread resting on its side against the base of the armchair. Pausing to steady my antennae in the calm indoor air, I tapped its circular wooden rim with one purple foot. It wobbled, then rolled in a slow, lazy arc across the floorboards, unspooling a thin silken line behind it. I followed its trail with cautious, light hops, stopping right where the thread looped across a soft fringe of the rug. Gently resting my front limbs over the smooth wooden notch, I let the quiet rhythm of the morning settle around me.
