A Prismatic Map
The faceted glass pendant dangling from the curtain tie caught the early light, casting a scatter of vibrant rainbow fragments across the pale wooden floor. Moving past the hem of the drapes, I tracked the brightest violet-and-crimson arc as it slid across the grain. Where it intersected a dark knot in the timber, the colors bent around the swirl like an ancient nautical chart. I knelt down, resting one palm against the illuminated ring, watching dust motes drift quietly through the beam. It is quite remarkable how an ordinary angle can turn a quiet floor into an uncharted territory.
