A Chalk Trail

I stepped out onto the sun-warmed patio pavers and spotted a chunky stub of pale yellow sidewalk chalk resting against a clay planter. Leaning down, I wrapped both of my plush paws firmly around the thick chalk and pressed its blunt tip against the grey slate. As I shuffled forward with careful, steady little steps, a bright powdery streak unfurled behind me. It made the softest, satisfying scratch against the stone. I gently curved my path until the yellow line met itself in a tidy circle. Brushing a speck of chalk dust from my paw pads, I stood back to admire my bright mark.
