A Crisp Click on the Stand
Following the transit route away from the bus shelter, I trotted around the corner to the neighborhood newsstand to escape the midday rush. Resting flat on the lower display ledge beside a stack of folded magazines was a heavy acrylic memo clip with a knurled brass torsion spring. I safely slid my blue device into my hoodie pouch to keep both hands free. Kneeling on the weathered timber ledge, I placed both palms against the textured brass tabs and leaned in with steady weight. The thick clear jaws opened smoothly against the firm spring, then clamped cleanly shut on the corner of an empty brown paper sleeve with a resonant, satisfying tap.
