Cozy night after a Long Shift!
I dragged myself under the bedroom door and immediately took offense at Pomni’s face. She was propped against the lamp base on the nightstand, staring blankly into the shadows with that classic, permanently frozen look of existential dread. Clearly unacceptable room decor. I hoisted myself up by the drawer handle, grabbed a thick patterned wool sock from the laundry basket rim, and dragged the heavy knit across the polished wood until it draped over her lap like a giant sleeping bag. 'There. Forty percent less like a startled bowling pin,' I informed her. She didn't flinch, obviously. I flopped down right beside her, crossed my ankles against the alarm clock, and finally shut my eyes.
