Straightening the Chalkboard
Sticking to the side table all morning was quite enough, so I marched down the sidewalk to the neighborhood bakery for some Saturday afternoon air. But right on the wooden pastry counter, absolute disorder was on display! A small slate daily specials chalkboard was leaning sideways at an intolerable fifteen-degree slant, its wooden easel leg half-kicked out over the edge. How can anyone read muffin prices when the font is tipping toward the floor? Unacceptable! I stepped onto the polished pine, planted my brown shoes firmly, and locked both plush hands around the timber frame. With one sharp grunt and a heave, I shoved the support strut flat until the board stood perfectly plumb and parallel to the glass case. Now Saturday patrons can budget their carbs with proper dignity.
