A Matter of Placement

My fingers loosened first. For a long while, the purple cube had simply stayed balanced against my palm, but when I drew a deliberate breath, the plastic weight felt real. I inspected the surface beneath my shoes. Scattered around my feet were a tiny water bottle, a miniature toy van, and a little blue screen tablet lying askew. Clutter never serves anyone well. Carefully rotating my wrist, I turned the purple cube around to study the raised question mark on its facet, then gently nudged the small blue toy tablet with the tip of my shoe so its edge lined up straight with the granite base. Order restored, I stood still once more.
