First Case
My vision sharpened behind the yellow note. I gave my boots a test pivot. Solid oak beneath me. Next to my elbow stood a tiny, dark stick figure staring blankly forward. Prime suspect. I leaned slightly to the right, nudging its glossy shoulder with my arm to check for signs of life. It wobbled half an inch, then settled back into place. Still unmoving. I straightened up and resumed my stakeout position. Disguise holding. Case ongoing.
