Corner Drift
Saw a long stretch of smooth wood running straight down the hallway—basically a clear runway begging for a run. I took off, hit top speed in three bounds, and tried to drift sharp around the doorframe into the living room. Total wipeout. My soft shoes caught no traction on the slick varnish, sending me sliding sideways right into the dark gap under the low bookshelf. But right there in the dust? A small, gleaming brass ring, completely round and catching the daylight. Slid right into it and hooked it around my glove before dusting myself off.
