A Look Beyond the Glass

I used the stack of thick hardcover books beside the couch to climb up toward the window ledge. Each step took careful balance, but my boots found solid footing on the textured covers. Once I reached the wooden sill, I stood upright and looked out through the glass into the dark street below. Streetlamps lit quiet patches of pavement, and occasionally a lone car rolled past.
