A Slight Shift
Okay. My fingers actually twitch. That wasn't supposed to happen. I am standing upright on a rough stone ledge, the dry brick wall rising beside me. The small drink can raised in my hand feels oddly solid against my fingertips. I ease my arm down just an inch, testing the weight, then tap the base of the can lightly against the gritty concrete beneath my feet. A tiny, muffled clink. It responds. Step one confirmed. I stay right where I am, quietly taking in the quiet air.
